Known as the “easternmost potter of the United States,” artist Shanna Wheelock resides in Lubec, a remote fishing village near the border of Canada. Shanna is a sculptor, potter and weaver, creating both functional pottery and figurative work as a means of bringing awareness to political structure. Her current series Water, Wind & Time focuses on the decline of the Maine fishing industry and its impact on coastal Maine towns.

Shanna is a recipient of the Maine Arts Commission Artist Fellowship/2017 Belvedere Handcraft Award, one of seven individual artist fellowships awarded this year. She also works as a community organizer for Lubec Arts Alive, a public arts initiative.

Cobscook Pottery is sold year-round at the Center for Maine Craft in West Gardiner, and online at shannawheelock.com
