9/1/16 CALL FOR ARTISTS & FARMERS: CSA: Community Supporting Arts

Juried Art Project, Including Exhibitions & Events to take place now – 9/1/16
more show information
In 2012 the Harlow Gallery organized the first Community Supporting Arts (CSA) project to connect Maine’s artist and farming communities, two vibrant and idealistic groups that are key to our state’s unique sense of place. It was a huge success so we’re doing it again in 2017!

We are seeking 10 Maine artists to participate in CSA II to be paired with 10 Maine farms. Each artist will seek inspiration in his or her counterpart’s life, work, landscape, ideals and challenges over the course of the 2017 growing season and create work based on their experiences and observations. Partnering farmers will be those operating CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) farms. A CSA farm offers shares at the beginning of the growing season and then provides fresh, seasonal food on a regular basis to each shareholding household throughout the growing season. Community Supported Agriculture is a grassroots response to the growing social and environmental problems of our modern industrial food system.

3/20/17 Writing needed for Collaborative Art Project

Exhibit of Handmade Books to take place 5/26/2017- 8/20/2017
I am making fifty handmade books that will contain your original, donated writing about either of two things:

  1. An anecdote of a time when you spoke the truth…. perhaps it was difficult to do, perhaps you could only lie in the moment. What was the story of your need to be truthful?
  1. A reflection on the need for truth in society. This could be approached from any perspective: What is truth? Does it matter if one lies? Censorship? The possibilities are endless.

One book will be returned to each of the first 50 donors so that the writing can be shared. They will be gorgeous! I have had writing from numerous people: witty one-liners, and some that are very profound. Any length of writing, sufficient to share what you want to share is welcome, as is a broad interpretation of the topic.  I hope to receive submissions by mid March as emails sent to gecgrenier@myfairpoint.net All writing will remain anonymous. Children will likely read this book and though it is not intended for them, writers should be aware of that.

4/21/2017 Call for Art: Contemporary Craft Exhibition

Exhibition to take place 6/6/2017 – 7/21/2017

http://www.brooklineartscenter.com/gallery/ContemporaryCraftCallForArt

The Brookline Arts Center invites New England-based artists to submit work for an exhibition of contemporary craft. Since the 1800s, New England has long been at the center of American craft from silversmithing to woodwork to textiles. In recent years, the craft movement has defied boundaries and gained recognition as an art form in its own right. What defines studio craft today? How does it navigate between function and fine art?
