Call to Artists – 300 artisans and specialty food producers come together for this juried show at the brand new Mohegan Sun Earth Expo Center on Thanksgiving weekend 2020. This will be the new home of the beloved Boston Christmas Festival. Rethink Black Friday…malls are out and small business is in. 7/31/2020 Freeport Fall Festival – cancelled

Juried Craft Show to take place 10/2/20-10/4/20

Each year on the first weekend in October, Visit Freeport brings together over 150 of the best New England artists, craftsmen and local food producers for a three-day festival on the L.L.Bean campus, Key Bank lawn and at the corner of West & Main Streets in Freeport, Maine. The application period is now open. All applications received by February 29, 2020 will be considered in the first round of jury selection in early March. Those received after the end of February will be processed in monthly juries as space allows.

Carving Class to take place 7/5/20 – 7/9/20

Taught by Alf Sharp, Recipient of the 2008 Cartouche Award from the Society of American Period Furniture-makers.
Work is done in the old-world manner, one piece at a time, and no compromises are made in materials or workmanship. Alf is a master of high and low relief carving, inlay, marquetry, and French polishing. ​ Alf Sharp has over thirty years in the studio furniture field, and has completed fine commissions for a number of historical homes and museums, as well as many private and corporate clients.

7/4/20 Tool Sharpening Class

Tool Sharpening Intensive Class to take place on 7/4/20

We will be concentrating on the final preparations of a proper edge. The initial shaping and edge forming work can be accomplished via any of a half dozen different methods – oil stones, waterstones, sandpaper, diamond stones, etc. Final honing and polishing of the edge is where the best results lie. 

6/28/20 Make and Carve a Traditional House Sign or Quarterboard

Wood Workshop to take place 6/29/20 – 7/2/20

Visit any coastal village and you will see numerous hand carved sign boards identifying a business, a home’s owner, or a street address. These handsomely carved and gilded “nameboards” were originally made to identify sailing vessels and have specific names according to where they are placed on a ship. This class is designed for those wishing to carve a nameboard for their home or boat. You will learn how to carve incised letters and numbers. We will also show you ways to finish off the ends of your nameboard. Once you have the hang of it, you will be able to layout and carve a nameboard of your choice and design.

6/20/20 Make a Blanket Chest with Hand Tools

Traditional Woodworking Class to take place 6/22/20 – 6/26/20

All Skill levels welcome. This 5 day workshop concentrates on traditional solid case-construction and hand-cut dovetails. Whatever your level of skill this piece will improve and enlarge your general woodworking techniques as well as providing you with an heirloom chest to be proud of. Preparing stock and gluing up solid boards without the use of clamps is just one of the traditional methods that high-end furniture-makers use to gain more control and choice. Let Graham show you how easy many of these methods are with the right techniques. 


Jewelry + Metals Workshop to take place 6/26/20 – 6/28/20

This course will explore materials beyond metals that can be found, appropriated and used in the creation of making jewelry and small objects, including plastics, wood, glass, rubber, etc. These explorations will include additive and reductive techniques, and deconstruction. Secondly, we will examine methods of joining these materials to each other and to metals and other substrates. Cold joining techniques (miniature nuts and bolts, riveting and glues…) will be investigated primarily, along with soldering techniques in the creation of small and intimate jewelry/objects. Concepts and ideas relating to both jewelry and materials will be considered.

Taught by “The World’s Best Carver”, Alexander Grabovetskiy: “Classical Carving with Flair”
This week will be an opportunity to study under one of the best carvers in the world. Alexander will start the class off with an in depth study of how to sharpen carving tools in the most productive and fastest way. Students will carve a project that will include the technique of using carving tools to do the majority of outlining and defining the lines of the design.

Visit Freeport is pleased to announce that we are partnering with local property owners to offer downtown retail pop-up shop opportunities to local artists, makers and producers this summer. These spaces will be shared during the months of July & August and offered at significantly discounted rates. Gardiner Main Street invites Maine artisans and craftsmen to its 19th annual juried arts and crafts festival. The craft fair accompanies the Gardiner River Festival. This fun annual event has been drawing residents and visitors from the Gardiner area for 25 years and is a day of outdoor activities, food vendors, children’s activities, nonprofit tables, art and craft vendors, performance stages of music and entertainment, and fireworks displays. It’s a community tradition, a destination, a festival of Maine’s summer season. New this year, the craft festival is now at Gardiner Waterfront Park, at the heart of the event festivities.

The 12th annual Picnic Craft Fair will take place on Saturday, August 1, 2020, with a rain date on August 2. This juried indie craft fair will be held outdoors in Lincoln Park on Congress and Franklin Streets, in Portland ME. The fair will run from 11am to 6pm. The Art Providence Show replaced the long-running RISD Annual Holiday Sale upon its cancellation in 2017. It carries forth the tradition of high-caliber work across a variety of disciplines including jewelry, ceramics, furniture, apparel and more. Featuring150-175 artists, makers and designers from throughout the US, including but not limited to RISD alumni.

LHUCA is seeking a qualified muralist or collaborative mural team to create an outdoor mural. There is no specific theme for this mural. The mural will be on a wall measuring 72′ x 25′. Artists must be 18 years or older to apply. Chosen artist/artist team will receive a $10,000 budget.

Whether you throw mugs, make oil paintings, design jewelry, knit hats or print calendars, we encourage you to apply to participate. Chaya will be transforming her space into a pop-up artisan marketplace with handmade items from around the state.

This 4-week event attracts buyers from the greater Portland area including Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough, South Portland and beyond. It has become a successful event for everyone involved and we consistently raise enough money to sponsor a family at Camp Sunshine. Please join us for year 7!

Donation Deadline: October 15, 2019

The auction will be held online with bids accepted from Oct 31 – Nov 18.  Proceeds from the auction will help the MCA reach our 2019 fundraising goal, which supports our educational programming and outreach efforts. Donations will be accepted through October 15st from MCA members and non members: Handmade craft objects are preferred, but other items and multiple items certainly accepted. 10/12/19 Fall Foliage Festival

Non-Juried Craft Show 10/12 – 10/13/19

Fall Foliage Festival draws 2,500 to 3,000 buyers to Boothbay., all interested in the handmade or hand-manufactured goods of area crafters and artisans. This is the Festival’s 52nd year, and is organized by the Boothbay Railway Association and the Boothbay Region Information Center, each a 501(c)3 nonprofit.
