Shared Studio for Rent

9/6/19 Textile Arts: Explore and Create Surface Design and Collage – Workshop with Catherine Worthington
Workshop to take place 9/21/19 – 9/24/19
$50 per workshop discount to MCA members
This course will explore the art of transforming fabric through surface design. Participants will learn techniques such as gel printing, mono-printing and mark making, resists and textile painting – building layers of color and texture to create a unique palette of fabrics to use in their textile art.
9/6/19 From Flat to Round: Exploring the sculptural properties of paper and cardboard – Workshop with Anna Hepler
Workshop to take place 9/24/19 – 9/27/19
$50 per workshop discount to MCA members
Paper can be scored and folded to produce complex origami animals or simple solids such as cubes, and dodecahedrons. Cardboard can be glued, stacked, and folded to produce objects of unexpected durability and size. This workshop is a low-tech celebration of these materials purchased in sheets, but with the potential to become amazing forms, and sculptures in the round. We will build models using paper and cardboard and create sculptural or functional free-standing forms.

9/14/19 Penquis Valley Craft & Vendor fair
Non-Juried Craft Show to take place 10/5/19
The 3rd Annual Penquis Valley Craft & Vendor fair (75% craft 25%vendor) will be held on Saturday, October 5th at Penquis Valley HS in Milo. We have grown over the past couple of years and are moving into the gymnasium this year with more space, easy access, and students available to help. The event is a fundraiser sponsored by the School Improvement Team to support student activities. Please email me for an application and more information.

In the spirit of Hirundo’s mission to share our love for nature with the community we are seeking vendors who work from all natural materials. 7/1/19 Call for Art | Women. RESPOND | Harlow Gallery
Exhibition to take place 8/2/19 – 9/7/19
The Harlow is seeking art for their upcoming exhibition “Women. Respond!” – an open call juried show which will be on view August 2-September 7, 2019. The deadline for entries is June 15, 2019 at 11:59pm. Entries will be juried by a curatorial committee comprised of Deb Fahy, and Amy Peters Wood, and fine art and museum consultant Daphne Anderson Deeds. Body image, male sexual misconduct, discrimination, gender identity, likeability are just a few of many issues women are faced with on a daily basis. As a woman, how do you respond artistically to current events? If you are a person who does not identify as a woman – what attributes do you think are essential for defining female-ness in today’s world? Is it a fluid line? Grab your glue guns, knitting needles, chisels, brushes, cameras, or other medium or choice. With a broad brush and open mind answer to the call: Women. Respond! Some restrictions may apply. Hazardous materials and open flames not accepted. All artists are welcome to submit, regardless of gender identity.

3 Day Music Festival & Arts Festival to take place 7/26 – 7/28/2019
Band Camp is a 3 day long 2 night music and arts festival on the ocean at Thomas Point Beach in Brunswick, Maine. Our mission is to try and cultivate a community of creative people for the Mid Coast area for a weekend to show off all of the talented people in Maine and beyond. While we have many options for artists whether it is setting up a booth or a table for small fees, our main focus is in the creation of art live, in demonstrations, performances or simply working on and sharing what you love to do. We welcome all artists to reach out and join!

The Harlow invites their artist members to submit one piece of art responding to the theme of “Striped” for the annual Summer Members’ Show and Sale. The theme is open to the artists’ personal interpretation. This opportunity is open to current members of the The Harlow/Kennebec Valley Art Association only. (Join anytime at harlowgallery.org.) The Harlow, in partnership with the Kennebec Land Trust (KLT) is seeking art for their upcoming exhibition “Art and the Land” – an open call juried show celebrating the 30th anniversary of the KLT. Art and The Land will be on view October 25-November 30, 2019 at The Harlow, 100 Water Street in Hallowell. The deadline for entries is Friday, September 20 at 11:59pm. Entries will be juried by staff members from The Harlow and the KLT.

6/1/19 Call for Ceramic Art | Formations | Harlow Gallery
Exhibition to take place 8/2/19 – 9/7/19
The Harlow is seeking submissions of ceramic work to be considered for “Formations” – an open call juried show on view August 2-September 7, 2019. The deadline for entries is July 1, 2019 at 11:59pm. Submissions will be juried by Harlow staff and ceramic artist Tyler Gulden. Artists may submit up to 4 pieces. Note: sets will not be considered as one submission – each separate piece will be counted toward the 4 piece limit. Original ceramic art of any type may be submitted including but not limited to: utilitarian, decorative, traditional, contemporary, installation, and more. Work that has been previously exhibited at the Harlow is not eligible. All works entered must be original work by the submitting artist. Artists should be residents of Maine at least part of the year or otherwise have a strong connection to our state. Please note that return shipping will be actual cost of postage plus $20 to cover staff time.

We invite you to join us for a Festival of the Arts and Crafts being held on OLD HALLOWELL DAY 2019 on Saturday, July 20th. This will be an unjuried show with ribbons for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. The City of Auburn is organizing their 1st Auburn Art in the Park juried art show to take place Monday, May 27th on Memorial Day. There will be a huge parade with floats from area businesses and organizations to celebrate Auburn’s 150 Anniversary. This is going to be a big event with lots to do and see.
Artists are invited to participate in Auburn’s 1st Annual Art in the Park juried art show. There will be purchase prizes as well as juried awards, the Public’s Awards and Mayor’s Choice Award. There will high profile people visiting and speaking at the event. This is a wonderful opportunity for local Maine artists to take advantage of. 4/27/19 Stitching and Piecing- Workshop exploring vintage Japanese textiles, Boro mending and quilting techniques in Tuscany
Join us to explore Japanese inspired patchwork piecing and stitching techniques.
Through hands-on projects, learn about a variety of traditional techniques and how to incorporate them into your own work. Boro, Katazome, Sashiko, Shibori, Indigo and Ikat. We have hired an Italian chef to prepare our meals and are looking forward to using the beautiful Tuscan countryside as inspiration.

The Raw Space Art Walk is an annual art walk held in downtown Augusta celebrating the dichotomy of rough, raw undeveloped spaces, alongside existing developed businesses. 4/22/19 Art Providence Show
Juried Craft Show to take place 11/8/19 – 11/10/19
The Art Providence Show was created in 2017 to replace RISD’s well-loved, long-running annual holiday sale upon its cancellation. While maintaining the same location and much of the pre-existing audience, the show differs from RISD’s in that it is juried and open to all artists/makers/designers working in the included categories – including but not limited to RISD alumni. The new format has received rave reviews and swiftly gained a reputation for attracting some of the country’s top makers and designers. This year’s show will take place November 8-10 at the RI Convention Center in downtown Providence and will feature the work of approximately 175 artists.

We are holding a fundraising craft, vendor and tag fair to purchase needed equipment for our K-8 lacrosse club. Fair will be in Palmyra, Maine at the Community center on Rt. 2 from 9-3. We are the feeder club to the high school team and have grown a great deal over the past couple years.

This is our Call to Artists seeking professional teaching artists to offer a residency for the 2019-2020 academic calendar year. Pop Up on Maine Art Hill is a gallery/retail venue in Kennebunk rented weekly by guest artists and artisans. Maine Art Hill offers this to help create a vibrant, ever-changing atmosphere and make new connections between artists, artisans, and clients. Situated just steps from our 2 main gallery spaces, all on Chase Hill Rd, the addition of the ever changing Pop Up Gallery has turned this small street into an “art destination” right in the heart of Kennebunk Lower Village.
We are just wrapping up Pop Up’s first season with over 20 shows exhibiting over 40 artists; it was really amazing to watch each artist/gallerist transform the space with their works each week. We are now looking for artists and artisans for our Spring/Summer 2019 schedule of shows.
4/1/2019 Haystack 2019 Summer Workshop Sessions
Craft Workshops to take place 6/9/19 – 8/31/19
Haystack’s core summer workshops include one- and two-week sessions in blacksmithing, clay, fiber, glass, graphics, metals, and wood. Workshops are open to adults 18 years or older of all skill levels – from beginners to advanced professionals. Studios are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with classes scheduled Monday through Friday. The Haystack community is made up of approximately 85 participants, including staff, students, and internationally known faculty artists. Instructors determine the format of their workshops.
Join us in Freeport, one of Maine’s top visitor destinations for a three-day art and music festival. With over three million visitors each year, the L.L.Bean campus attracts more shoppers to its flagship location than any other destination in Maine.
3/1/2019 Haystack 2019 Open Studio Residency
Open Studio Residency to take place 5/26/19 – 6/7/19
“Haystack’s Open Studio Residency fosters a dynamic exchange of ideas among peers and provides two weeks of studio time and an opportunity to work in a supportive community of makers and those selected attend for free. The program supports approximately 50 participants—from the craft field and other creative disciplines—who have uninterrupted time to work in six studios (ceramics, fiber, graphics, iron, jewelry, and wood) to develop ideas and experiment in various media. Participants can choose to work in one particular studio or move among them depending on the nature of their work. All of the studios are staffed by technicians who can assist with projects.
The Haystack Fab Lab will also be open, providing an opportunity for experimentation with digital fabrication as a way for residents to augment and complement their creative practices. In addition to open studios, there will be time for participants to share work and discuss ideas across disciplines. Residents include established and emerging artists working in a range of visual art and craft media.”
3/15/19 Laudholm Nature Crafts Festival
Juried Craft Show to take place 9/7/19 – 9/8/19
The 32nd annual Laudholm show will bring 120 artisans to a spectacular seaside setting on Maine’s southwest coast. The historic site, expansive property, event camaraderie, and thousands of attendees make the nature crafts festival a one-of-a-kind experience. Proceeds from the event benefit the education, research, and conservation programs of the Wells Reserve.
