The UMVA Gallery (516 Congress Street in Portland) is hosting an exhibition, Some Reliable Truths About Chairs, a juried group exhibit of 2D and 3D Art open to all Maine artists, and is seeking work on the simple premise of chairs. Robyn Holman, retired art curator, Atrium Art Gallery at USM’s Lewiston Campus will serve as a guest juror along with painter Janice L. Moore who will curate this exhibit.

Maine artists are invited to submit images of work for consideration. All media will be considered: paintings, photography, drawings, sculpture, fiber, metal, and wood. The space is not huge, so scale will be a consideration. Chairs need not be the sole focus, but must be a primary feature of the work. There is no entry fee to submit work for consideration, but accepted artists will need to have their annual Union of Maine Visual Artists membership up-to-date. UMVA Membership is open to all Maine artists. The annual sliding membership contribution ($25-45) is due each January. For more information about UMVA membership and benefits go to:

3/15/2018 Studio to Share

Contact Marianne at

I am looking for an artist who wants to share my studio. The studio space is available immediately. It’s located on upper Front Street in Bath. Over 150 square feet, doors separate this portion of the studio from the rest of the space. Private bathroom in the shared studio space. The studio is on the second floor, no lift, stairs only. $200/month plus 1/2 utilities (approx. $20).

I am a feltmaker, the portion of the studio that is available has good natural light. The only limitations are that I can’t have open flame in the studio (so most jewelers would probably be out); the floors are carpeted and the studio is on the 2nd floor so wet or dusty work (like ceramics) would also not be a good fit.
