Words into Wool is a tactile and interactive visual art installation that honors the stories and history of the people who make Maine their home through felted wall hangings and sculptures.

From January 7 – March 2, 2020, the MCA will welcome fiber artist Sara Palumbo of Bath, Maine to create an interactive body of work in the Center gallery space. During this winter artist residency at the West Gardiner service plaza, Sara will create an installation of felted sculpture that express personal stories of Maine people. The installation pieces will be displayed for viewing and conversation in the retail gallery.

Sara learned wet felting from Susan Mills in Bowdoinham, Maine and has been studying shamanism for the last several years. She completed a one-year shamanic apprenticeship with Windhorse Circle in Pownal, Maine along with Ancestral Medicine coursework with Dr. Daniel Foor. Shamanism and felting naturally meld together in her work.
