About
An entirely self-taught wood artist, I use my background in furniture design and industrial design to craft functional and artistic pieces with precision that stand the test of time. Using a RIKON lathe I designed for the company, I work with wood sourced from only local Maine trees. With an eye for detail, I carefully select wood with unusual grain patterns, which, when turned or hand carved, become unique works that cannot be replicated.
My focus is to resurrect materials that have been discarded, salvaging green wood from tree removals, storm damage, and municipal landfills. Bowls and Hollow Forms, my specialty, are turned from green wood, then air-dried for six months to several years. Each piece is then carefully evaluated and re-turned or carved into both utilitarian and aesthetic pieces, which can incorporate color, texture, and pyrographic techniques. At the heart of my work is a drive to elevate the simple to the level of art.
