Brian started his craft business, Brian Haddock Cabinetmaker, in Bridgton, Maine in 1974. It was a 1 man carpentry company that worked primarily repairing, renovating and restoring older homes and barns.
Over the years the company grew and became Architectural Woodworkers. The scope of work expanded to include historic preservation, new home construction, cabinet work, architectural millwork and furniture.
In 2006 the business transitioned into Furniturea, a contemporary furniture company with a retail store in the Old Port in Portland and a manufacturing shop in Westbrook.
Furniturea was closed in 2020 and, after a stay, Brian has taken his company back to its beginnings working in a 1 man shop building furniture with design references to the old homes and barns he worked on when he started 5o years before.
The new company, Rural Modern Furniture, offers unique products that present an interesting mix of contemporary style, historical architectural detailing, bright colors and functional furniture construction. The works are primarily built to order and custom requests are accepted.
