At Myers of Maine Woodworks, we are passionate about crafting. We believe that creativity is one of the keys to happiness, and that everyone can create beautiful things. By hand selecting the materials and carefully planning the design, we can present pieces that will be cherished for many years to come. I am a hands-on visual learner and have always gravitated to working with my hands. I have a flair for design and enjoy using contrasting woods for color and texture. My techniques require both power tools and hand tools. The only parts that are not handmade are hardware for lamps and clock movements. I do not use anyone’s plans. I prefer looking at images online as well as actual furniture for inspiration. Then, I draft my own plans. The wood I purchase is not finish milled. I select the boards myself and always prefer figured, interesting grain patterns with an occasional imperfection like a knot for interest and mill them myself. I also book match my box lids and my grain is a continual flow pattern around the boxes.
