About
My name is Aleisa Duley, I am a self-taught potter and have been working in my small studio, tucked into a corner of our old barn in Waldoboro, Maine since 2019. My work continues evolve by allowing the elements of one pot to inform the next, by showing up each day with new questions, new problems to solve, and in this process, discovering my voice as a maker.

Classic forms, functionality, and the intersection of rustic and refined are characteristics of my work. I formulate glazes in earthy colors and often layer them so they move and flow in unpredictable ways, highlighting the contours and surface elements of each piece, while also forming a chemically stable glass matrix, ensuring the work is durable and practical for daily use.

My goal is to create objects that fit into our homes, nestle among the books and artworks, earn a place on the mantle or sideboard; objects that add moments of comfort and beauty, and accumulate stories through their routine use.

Inspiration for my work comes from the study of objects made by others, by hand or molded form, from cultures with varying traditions, both ancient and contemporary.
