About the Artist
Cara was raised in Kennebunk, and her heart is firmly rooted in Maine. She graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia, where she was on the fencing team and received her BFA in glass and ceramics. Through fencing, she has traveled around the world, from Cuba to Finland, Croatia to Italy and beyond, and maintains that Maine is the best place to call home. She and her partner own a property in Bowdoinham, where they live with their daughter Luna. They have slowly been renovating an antique barn into a studio, complete with woodworking and glassblowing equipment.
In 2017, Cara apprenticed with master glassblower Ben Coombs through the Maine Craft Apprentice Program, a production of the Maine Crafts Association and the Maine Arts Commission with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. CAP celebrates the master/apprentice relationship as a way to generate creative entrepreneurship, envisioning a sustainable and resilient craft sector for Maine. Cara has since been transitioning her glassblowing practice out of Ben’s Woolwich studio to her developing production space in her renovated barn.
