About the Artist

Earthtones
Sandy Boynton
Eddington, Maine

Sandy Boynton of Earthtones skillfully weaves overshot and twill runners, shawls, and scarves from her home in Eddington, Maine. She uses various equipment including a 24” 8 shaft table loom, 40″ 8 shaft AVL H loom, and 20″ table loom to create an assortment of handwoven wearables and home goods. Her favorite materials include high-quality wools, twill, and cotton in a rainbow of colors and combinations. Sandy has been a weaver for over 13 years, and became a member of the MCA in 2010. Having the Center for Maine Craft as her single stockist has helped facilitate the exploration of new materials, colors, and weaving patterns, a process she nurtures through continuous research. Her passion has spurred her to travel and study the cultural significance that weaving holds for ethnic groups and communities around the world. This knowledge has fueled her both as a maker and collector of woven fabrics, many of which now fill the walls of her home with bright colors, patterns, and textures. Her immersion into the craft has carried her through chronic illness, a labor of love and primary source of comfort on her journey to health. Her goal is to create craft objects that offer beauty, comfort, and accessibility for all who love and appreciate the art of handweaving.
