Rustic Oak Burl Bowl | Peter Asselyn

SKU: C766-17665

A beautiful live edge red oak burl bowl turned on a lathe by woodworker Peter Asselyn of Durham, Maine. The Center for Maine Craft has two massive bowls made from this ancient red oak burl available – please visit us in West Gardiner to see this bowl’s larger sibling! While all of Peter’s bowls are finished with food-safe waxes, the delicate, sculptural nature of this live edge bowl is not well suited for the rigors of serving ware.

About the Artist

Peter Asselyn
Durham, ME

As a young man he joined the Air force and worked in aircraft electronics, followed by 25 years working as a telephone lineman before he retired and rediscovered his passion for working with wood on a lathe. Through this work he has rediscovered his true passion, self-described as unearthing the beauty of Mother Nature, he considers himself an acolyte to her true artistry.
