REGISTRATION BEGINS: February 8, 2023 at 12:00 PM

One of seven courses available for the May 11 – 14, 2023 MCA Weekend Workshop @ Haystack

Instructor: Tim McCreight
Haystack Studio: Metals
Enrollment Limit: 13
Materials Fees: $10
Level: All levels are welcome!

Class Description:

This energetic workshop celebrates jewelry’s unique ability to lend power to everyday objects and techniques that make this not only possible but pretty easy. We start with the stones, bottle caps, and shells that we all collect (you know that you do), and invent ways to incorporate them into pendants, brooches, and necklaces. Along the way, we might discover a new understanding of design and intent. The workshop will offer instruction in making rivets, tabs, staples, and other ingenious ways of capturing materials that might otherwise escape our notice. Open to anyone with an open mind and a willingness to learn; experienced jewelers are invited but traditional skills are not required. Materials will include copper, brass, silver, wood and, you know, found objects.

The instructor will provide all essential materials for each student that will be covered by the $10 studio materials fee. Students are asked to collect and bring their own found objects to include in their projects.

Examples of objects to bring:

  • stones
  • bottle caps
  • shells
  • pieces of wood
  • plastics
  • rubber
  • enameling samples from other workshops
  • momentos or any item found along the way in your travels
