“Everything motivates me to create: a winter sunset, a branch, a bug, a tiny flower, the all-powerful sea. Natural forms are the inspiration for my designs, each one of a kind executed in sterling silver, 18 karat gold and precious and semiprecious stones.”
Christine Peters has been designing and creating jewelry since 1996. She shows her work in many galleries and shops in Maine and beyond as well as a network of private clients with collections in their own homes. Working from her home studio, constantly and consistently fabricating, Christine manipulates form, texture, and color to meld together and form anew.
Trained in sculpture from Boston University, For four years she carved stone, pushed clay and welded steel. After moving to Maine in 1995, and lacking a large studio, she gravitated towards jewelry where all was needed was a bench and a torch. “I continued my studies at Maine College of Art, Metalwerx, Haystack, and privately with several Maine jewelers, who are now my colleagues. I am always trying to push my metalwork and design sense to new levels.”
The Maine Crafts Association was founded in 1983 to support and connect Maine’s craft artists. This non-profit organization provides educational programs, public events, mentorship, artist promotions and an inclusive community to connect emerging, mid-career and established craftspeople.
