MCA Weekend Workshop @ Haystack

Push and Pull – Form and Surface

Class Description:

This workshop is all about play and the exploration of clay as the malleable material. Students will coil, pinch, cut, and work with hard and soft slabs in clay to create forms that are dynamic and generate future ideas. Forms then be enhanced with surface treatments such as stamping, pressing, sgraffito and mono-printing.

Materials + Fees: 

Participants in this workshop will have two options to select from for the studio materials fee. MCA staff will contact registered participants after the registration to confirm their selection. The fee will be added to your invoice.

Materials Fee Option #1: N/A

When choosing this option, students will be responsible for the purchase and transportation of their own clay of choice. You will need to bring at least 50 lbs.

Students are asked to bring the following items:
  • Your favorite clay tools
  • A hand towel
  • An apron or studio clothes
Materials Fee Option #2: $55

Students will be supplied with 50 lbs of Laguna 65. MCA will take care of the transport to the campus, but participants should plan on removing any extra clay and or scraps by the end of the workshop. The fee will be added to your invoice after registration

Students are asked to bring the following items:
  • Your favorite clay tools
  • A hand towel
  • An apron or studio clothes

About the Instructor-

Candice Methe is an Artist and Educator living in Morrill, ME. She received her BFA in Ceramics and Art History from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ, and her MFA from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. She has had several Artist-in-Residence opportunities, such as The Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramics Arts, Red Lodge Clay Center, Santa Fe Clay, RAIR (Roswell Artist in Residence Foundation), and SWOPA (Sirigu Women’s Organization for Pottery and Art) in Ghana. She has exhibited and taught nationally as well as internationally. She is a lover of Ancient Pottery, Dogs, and Nature. When not in her studio, you can find her knitting or in the kitchen baking!
