Bryan Hansen grew up in the midwest and graduated with a BFA in metalsmithing and jewelry from Maine College of Art in 2018. In reference to his childhood mindset, he fabricates, casts, and forges objects of vague whimsy that appear artifactual in nature. Hansen’s interests lie in tools, relics of supposed unimaginable significance, the augmentation of the body through said objects, and a precursory state of perception that makes up any and all of the connections we experience in our individual constructions of reality. Stripped of these heady concepts he also appreciates and pursues the beauty in simple objects and curated forms and the almost supernatural allure certain forms are capable of producing.
Bryan is featured in our 40th Anniversary Ruby Jubilee with custom artwork made with the ruby in mind; “My very first thought when asked to create work around the ruby was of a beautiful ruby red apple. These earrings are sandcast in sterling silver and set with round ruby cabochons. They depicted a swinging hand reaching up into a tree to pluck an apple from its bough.”
A proud member of MCA, Bryan is one with our community seizing every opportunity and utilizing the experience of our other members to learn about his own practice. Featured at Maine Craft Portland in our permanent cases; Bryan will also have a trunk show during the month of December featuring custom pieces, never released designs, as well as his production classics that we all know and love.
