A.W.D. Textile Designs celebrates the energy of color, the joy of patterns, and connecting with others through unique, functional art. Founded by Anysa Williamson Denby, a graduate of Maine College of Art & Design, and based in Portland, ME, A.W.D. Textile Designs creates handmade, visually engaging bags and garments that spark curiosity and foster connections through a personal touch that is felt in every stitch. From the initial sketches, silk screening and cutting fabric, to stitching each piece together—each part of the process is meticulously handled by Anysa herself. This hands-on approach is about more than just the final product. Through color, print, and design, every creation is an opportunity for Anysa to share her passion for textiles, collaborate with others, and connect with the world around her.

The A.W.D. Textile Designs collection is deeply rooted in Anysa’s personal journey of healing and growth, and her designs are an extension of that process. By blending abstract patterns with a story of transformation, Anysa aims to create textiles that not only intrigue but invite a deeper connection to those who engage with them. Each piece is intended to encourage personal reflection and interpretation and to celebrate the beauty of how we each interpret the world differently. Anysa hopes this collection encourages others to do the same, creating their own stories along the way.
The entire A.W.D. Textile Designs collection is naturally dyed and printed by hand, which allows the design process to unfold organically. This ensures that each fabric is truly one of a kind. The collection consists of six looks, each representing a different phase of Anysa’s personal journey.

Anysa states:
The collection begins with deep reddish-orange tones derived from madder root dye, symbolizing the complexity and intensity of personal struggle. As the collection progresses, the colors shift to blues from indigo, symbolizing clarity and healing. The color progression reflects my own path toward self-discovery and emotional growth.
The printing techniques evolve throughout the collection as well. Initially, iron printing is used which creates dense, reactive patterns that reflect emotional weight. Over time, the printing transitions to a rice paste resist technique, which results in more open and defined designs. This shift mirrors my own transformation, symbolizing clarity, release, and personal growth. I also incorporate design elements such as D-rings and ties, which represent tension and restraint. These elements loosen as the collection progresses, symbolizing my journey toward emotional freedom and release.
Incorporating my bags into the STITCH runway show has been an exciting challenge. My business focuses on blending functionality with design through my accessories, and I wanted to bridge the gap between my bags and the garment pieces I create. Featuring the bags alongside my clothing collection felt like a natural extension of my vision. This collection reflects my belief that design should be personal, meaningful, and functional. Whether viewed or worn, I hope each piece resonates with others and allows them to create their own personal connection with the story I’ve crafted.
