A Legacy of Quality, Craftsmanship, and Sustainability
For 30 years, Jill McGowan has been redefining women’s apparel with a focus on quality, durability, and timeless style. From her early days as a patternmaker at the Hathaway Shirt Co. to launching her own brand in 1994, Jill has been on a mission: to create clothing that stands the test of time – both in design and construction.
Her career began with a realization: women’s clothing often lacked the same level of craftsmanship as men’s. So, she set out to change that – starting with a collection of impeccably tailored white shirts, inspired by classic men’s shirting but designed specifically for women. Since then, her brand has grown into a beloved name in fashion, known for its thoughtful design, sustainable production practices, and commitment to Made in the USA craftsmanship.
At STITCH 2025, Jill will take center stage as our keynote speaker, sharing insights into her journey, the evolution of her brand, and the importance of supporting local craftspeople and sustainable fashion. With her Portland-based studio and flagship store, Jill remains deeply connected to her Maine roots, embracing a slow fashion philosophy that values quality over quantity.
Jill’s designs are more than just clothing—they are heirloom pieces, worn and loved across generations. Customers return time and again, not just for the effortless elegance of her collections but for the values her brand upholds: sustainability, integrity, and craftsmanship.
